Alton Eagle Watching Day Trip (Second Trip)

Thursday, February 23, 2017 -
8:45am to 5:00pm

Active Older Adult Day Trip

Board the luxury charter coach at the Y at 8:45 am and head out at 9 am on Thursday, Feb. 23 for a day with the always fabulously entertaining Jerry Mooneyham. For adults. Return to the Y at about 5 pm.

Audubon Center at Riverlands
Here we will be greeted by a knowledgeable guide. While in the center we will be able to look at exhibits and look for birds in the high-powered spotting scopes. Our guide will take us into the theater for a short video on the birds of the area and the sanctuary, and will then join us on the bus for a tour of the sanctuary.

Pere Marquette Lodge
We will have lunch at the Pere Marquette Lodge, which was built in the 1930s and has a distinct flavor of native stone and rustic timbers. Its most prominent feature is the 700-ton fireplace in the Great Room Lobby along with the life size chess board and pieces. The Lodge is known for its family-style fried chicken. Lunch will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, vegetable of the day, roll, coffee, tea and pie of the day.

Locks and Dam and Eagle Watching
At Melvin Price Locks & Dam #26, we will have a guided tour and see towboats and barges as they push their way through this incredible structure. An explanation of how the locks work will be included. We have been told by many in Alton that the top of the dam is the best place in the area to watch for eagles. We will also have time to visit the museum and gift shop.
