According to my peers, I’m nicer. I’m more a gentleman.
When Jaiveon first started the Reach & Rise Mentoring Program, he was looking to get out of his house and get away from his little brother. At the end, he discovered he had grown as a person. “According to my peers, I’m nicer. I’m more a gentleman. I’m more of a people person.” Jaiveon’s mother noted how he has built a better relationship with not only her but also with his little brother. But the positive effects of mentoring do not just stop for the mentee. Jaiveon’s mentor, Jimmy, also really enjoyed his experience and looked forward to his time each week with Jaiveon. “The experience has been outstanding. I have learned some things from him and I hope he has learned some from me.” Both Jimmy and Jaiveon have spent the past 18 months hanging out, having fun, and building a relationship that not only helped Jaiveon, but also helped Jimmy grow as a person.
