Meet Noah, age 6. He really enjoyed his first year at summer camp with the Y, making new friends, staying active and having fun. His grandmother, Debbie, who is his main caregiver, was excited to sign him up for another summer of camp. Before summer arrived, tragedy struck. At just 6 years old, Noah’s father passed away suddenly. Debbie was worried about Noah and concerned he wouldn’t have the same experience at camp. A couple weeks into camp, Noah began playing catch with a camp counselor, B.J. They developed a strong relationship, and Noah would run to B.J. with a football, soccer ball or basketball each morning with a huge smile on his face. On Noah’s last day of camp, Noah brought B.J. a card and a picture he colored. B.J. gave Noah a football. Debbie’s concerns turned to appreciation as she shared wonderful things about B.J. and how he not only impacted Noah’s life, but also her own. B.J. is in the process of officially becoming a mentor to Noah (!), and Debbie is excited to get Noah involved in other Y programs. We're glad to be here for him!
