"LIVESTRONG at the YMCA increased my confidence and gave me the opportunity to form a connection with other cancer survivors."
Tiffany was just 32 years old and 35 weeks pregnant with her second child when she was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer. With a baby on the way and a two-year-old son, she vowed that she would do whatever it took to fight to win this battle. Just a week and a half after giving birth to her daughter, Tiffany started aggressive chemotherapy and eventually had a double mastectomy. She didn’t feel ready to join a typical support group to discuss her condition, but LIVESTRONG at the YMCA® was right for her.
“Meeting other cancer patients/survivors in the gym setting gave me what I needed to ‘work out’ my aggression, center me mentally and make me feel part of an unstoppable alliance that increased with every workout. Not only did the program help me improve my physical strength and endurance, but it increased my confidence and gave me the opportunity to form a connection with other cancer survivors.”
