The Gateway Region YMCA and Alzheimers Association have partnered to offer free educational classes to Y members and the community on Alzheimer’s warning signs, basic caregiving and living with the disease.
Classes offered at area branches will be one of the three Introductory Workshops:
Know the 10 Signs
Separate myth from reality and address commonly-held fears about Alzheimer’s disease. Find out how to recognize the signs, learn the benefits of early detection, and discover resources to help.
The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s
Comprehensive overview of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease that includes information on diagnosis, progression, treatment, resources and support.
Healthy Living for your Brain and Body
Learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and use hands-on tools to help you incorporate these tips into a plan for healthy aging.
Alzheimer’s is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. More than 5 million Americans are impacted by the disease – including more than 330,000 individuals with the disease and 900,000+ people providing unpaid care for them in Missouri and Illinois.
These educational classes are free to the community but registration is required.
