At the Y, kids learn new skills in a fun, supportive environment while gaining strength, discipline, and teamwork. Whether your child is twirling in ballet, cheering with spirit, or flipping in gymnastics, there’s a program for every age and ability.

Ballet & Tap: A fun class that teaches dancers beginning ballet and tap terminology.

Jazz & Tap: A fun class where dancers learn beginning jazz and tap terminology while building rhythm, movement and confidence.

Hip Hop, Poms & Specialty Classes

Hip Hop & Poms: A fun, high-energy class where dancers learn hip-hop dancing along with the precise forms and movements of pom-pon.

Additional class types may include musical theater, storybook dance and other specialty dance options depending on the branch and session.

Parent/child, preschool, school-age, tumbling, ninja, adaptive and competitive options.

 

Parent/Child Classes

Preschool Playtime (Ages 0–6): Bring your children in for 90 minutes of parent-supervised fun in our Children's Center. Parents must remain with children at all times. Preschool Playtime is offered during the fall, winter, and spring. This open gym time is free for Y members and $6 per family for non-members.

Wigglyworms (Ages 12–36 months): An introduction to gymnastics in an engaging, fun atmosphere with parents.

Preschool Classes

Bouncing Bears (Beginner, Ages 3–5): A beginner class for your preschooler who’s ready to start gymnastics! This class introduces age-appropriate basic skills to improve strength, balance, and coordination.

Tumbling Teddies (Intermediate, Ages 3–5): This class is designed for gymnasts to continue their basic gymnastics skills, as well as progress to more challenging skills. Gymnasts must be able to do forward rolls and walk forward on the beam unassisted.

Cartwheeling Cubs (Advanced, Ages 3–5): This class is for gymnasts who want to continue their progression of gymnastics. Must be able to do strong front support and 3 casts with hips off the bar, and a basic cartwheel.

School-Age Classes

Rollers (Ages 6 & Up): No experience is necessary! Rollers is a beginner developmental class that lays the foundation for all progressive gymnastics skills.

Swingers (Ages 6 & Up): Gymnasts must be able to perform a controlled front support roll down on the bars, walk forward, backward, and sideways on the balance beam unassisted, and complete a backward roll on the floor.

Kippers (Ages 6 & Up): Gymnasts must have graduated from Gliders and mastered the following skills: pull-over, kick over, underwing to a candlestick, back hip-circle, front support to straddle sit to squat, candlestick (high beam), round-off, backbend, bridge kick over, jump full turn, and jump forward roll (vault).

Tumbling, Boys Tumbling & Ninja

Tumbling 101 (Ages 6–18): A beginner class for motivated athletes interested in cheerleading or gymnastics. Participants learn foundational tumbling skills while building strength and flexibility.

Boys Tumbling & Conditioning (Ages 6 & Up): Beginner and advanced options focused on tumbling, strength, flexibility, balance and overall athleticism.

Ninja Conditioning (Ages 5–13): Combines coordination and agility training to build upper-body strength while improving overall fitness and conditioning. This fun class is perfect for boys and girls looking to unleash their inner ninja through tumbling, jumping, vaulting, and other exciting obstacle-based skills!

Cheerleading Classes

YMCA cheerleading helps kids build self-confidence and self-esteem while developing social skills and healthy relationships with peers.

Participants learn cheerleading fundamentals including basic motions, jumps, cheers and chants. Programs may be available for ages 5–18, depending on branch and session availability.

Recreational Cheer

Recreational cheer is a great introduction to cheerleading skills, teamwork, spirit and movement in a fun, supportive environment.

Participants may work on motions, jumps, dance, cheers, chants and beginner tumbling skills.

Competitive Cheerleading

Competitive cheer opportunities may be available for athletes ready to continue developing their cheer, dance, tumbling and teamwork skills in a team setting.

At South County YMCA, All-Star Cheer includes team placement evaluations, a season commitment and additional required items such as cheer shoes, practice wear, uniform and bow.

All-Star Cheer Teams

Mini All-Stars: Athletes continue learning body awareness and correct form for cheerleading motions, jumps, dance and tumbling skills.

Youth All-Stars: Advanced cheerleaders continue progressing in motions, jumps, dance and tumbling skills while learning a cheer routine for the season.

Junior All-Stars: Designed for advanced athletes continuing progression in cheerleading motions, jumps, dance and tumbling skills.

Senior All-Stars: Older athletes learn advanced cheerleading motions, jumps, dance and tumbling skills.
